Fundraising Tips and Tricks

COVID-19 may have taken a fun weekend from us, but breast cancer robs our friends, loved ones, and neighbors of their health, their hair, their bodies, and, for some, even their lives. We can’t stop fundraising, because breast cancer doesn’t stop.

We need you now more than ever!

Register (here) and then fundraise! Women and men facing breast cancer need our support now, Whether it’s emotional support via our helpline, financial support through our treatment assistance program, or help to navigate their care journey, we must be there for them.

Here are some online fundraising tips to help you get started!

1. Never miss an opportunity. Now is not the time to be shy! Let everyone know that you are participating in the Virtual Race for the Cure and are planning to #RaceWhereYouAre. Tell your friends and family who you Race for and why, and then ask for a donation.
2. Donation for Days. Ask people to donate an amount per mile of your 5k (3.1 miles) or per step! Instead of a $25 donation, encourage them to make three $20 donations or $0.50 per step! Reminding your donors of the option to donate over time (or distance) is a great way to increase the size of donations.
3. Your Fundraising Center. Send emails from your Race for the Cure fundraising center. Customize your personal webpage with a picture and your personal story. Email your fundraising letter to friends, family, and coworkers and ask them to support you. Your email will have a direct link right back to your website and when they donate online, they will automatically receive a receipt for tax purposes. Ask everyone to forward on your email to 10 more people!
4. Fundraise on Facebook. Register and then link your fundraising center to your Facebook page and ask friends and family to join you in the fight against breast cancer by donating today.
5. Spirit Week Antics. Ask your friends to sponsor you during Komen Northwest Ohio’s Virtual Spirit Weeks! Every time you get five likes or shares on a photo, ask them to donate $5. The more fun the photos or videos, the more engagements you’ll have. And don’t forget to share your fun with us in our Virtual Race for the Cure Facebook Group!
