Additionally, Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio and the YWCA Northwest Ohio have entered into a Joint Breast Health Equity Partnership. This new initiative will provide a breast cancer early detection program offering uninsured and underinsured women life-saving information and no- or low-cost mammography screenings. It targets minority communities who are at the greatest risk for breast cancer.
Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio is the largest independent supporter of breast cancer services in Northwest Ohio. It is our mission save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all, and energizing science to find the cure.
“Breast cancer has the power to affect everyone in our community, and we believe every woman and man deserves the best chance to identify and fight this disease,” said Michele Murnen Rice, president of the Susan G. Komen® Northwest Ohio Board of Directors.
The funds for these grants are raised primarily through annual Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure events in Findlay and Toledo.
“Every $30 Race registration submitted and every donation made makes a huge difference in the lives of thousands of women and men in Northwest Ohio,” said Mary Westphal, executive director of Susan G. Komen® Northwest Ohio. “Seventy-five percent goes to community outreach, education, screenings, and life-saving breast cancer services. The remaining twenty-five percent goes to fund breakthrough research.”
